GROUP COUNSELING

What is a Counseling Group?

A counseling group is a group of students (8-10) that meet with one or two counselors to discuss and share information on a specific topic with the counselors present to help facilitate the group discussions.

How do they work?

The School Counseling Department runs counseling groups each year by grade level. Counselors visit classrooms to explain to the students what the counseling groups are and how they work. Students are asked to fill out a confidential survey indicating their interest in counseling services. Counselors review the surveys and meet with the students individually who have expressed interest in a counseling group or service. Counseling groups are formed based on common topics of interest. Groups usually meet for 8 weeks.
