Board of Education Public Comment Guidelines

  • The board of education has set aside a 15 minute period prior to the start of the meeting, and another 15 minute period at the end to hear public comments. We ask that each individual limit their remarks to 3 minutes, so that we may be able to hear from everyone who wishes to speak.

  • Those who wish to speak during the public comment section should sign in before the meeting begins.

  • Please know that the board is here to listen. The public comment period is not designed to be a discussion with the board. Accordingly, please do not expect the board to respond to your concerns and questions that same night. This is because we take your concerns and questions seriously and want to have sufficient time to process and research issues, if need be. We will, however, respond to your questions and concerns at a future meeting, or have the proper staff member get back to you at the appropriate time.

  • Under state and federal privacy laws we are unable to entertain any comments or questions about school personnel. Please know, however, that we take personnel concerns very seriously. On these matters, we would ask you to go through the appropriate administrative channels. If you are unsure of what these are, you can start with your building principal or direct your questions to our superintendent.

  • All speakers and members of the audience must maintain civility and respect for any alternate views that others possess. Our board policy states that obscene or threatening language will not be allowed. We ask that speakers please address their comments to the board directly, rather than the audience. At the first public comment period, speakers should focus on topics directly related to tonight’s agenda. Other topics may be brought up at our second public comment period at the end of the meeting. In the unlikely event the meeting becomes unruly, the board will recess the meeting and return once order has been restored. Finally, we want to remind everyone that you may submit written comments to the board in lieu of speaking during the public comment period, if you so choose.
