Under clear skies and crisp fall temperatures, students took to the fields for the annual Ballard Apple Run on Friday.

Class by class, students raced across the green grass fields, giving their best effort as they worked toward the finish line. Afterward, runners enjoyed a fresh apple and water while gathering with classmates to celebrate their accomplishments.

Beyond the race itself, the event highlighted the strong sense of community that defines Ballard Elementary, as staff and parents/guardians joined the racers.

“The Ballard Apple Run is a tradition that allows us to come together as a school community. It is a celebration of fall, fitness and an opportunity to lift up one another,” Principal Michael Huchro said.

That spirit was evident throughout the day as older students lined the course and finish area to cheer on younger runners.

“It was really fun, and everybody did great,” said fifth-grade student Mia Fiorillo. “I think it helps the younger kids because when they get older, they'll get to do it too. It shows them that if they keep training and keep pushing themselves, they can do it.”
