On Wednesday, May 21st, juniors and seniors at South Glens Falls High School will have the opportunity to witness an impactful mock driving while intoxicated (DWI) crash*. At this time, this event involves the collaboration of multiple local agencies including: South Glens Falls Fire Company, Moreau EMS, Saratoga County Sheriff's department, NY State Police, Saratoga County ADA’s office, Saratoga County Coroner’s office, and the Kilmer Funeral Home. The realistic scenario, will take place on school grounds and will involve multiple crashed cars, the arrival of police cars, an ambulance and possibly a medevac helicopter. This event will serve as a drill for our local agencies but for our students a reminder of the devastating consequences of driving under the influence.

The mock crash will involve student volunteers acting as victims and the impaired driver. Local law enforcement officers will conduct a simulated field sobriety test and arrest of the "impaired driver," emphasizing the legal ramifications of DWI. Students will witness first responders simulated extracting injured individuals from the mangled vehicles, administering emergency care, and in a stark reminder of the ultimate price, the simulated death of one of the victims.

The mock DWI presentation is part of South Glens Falls high school’s ongoing commitment to promoting student safety and responsible decision-making. The school hopes that this powerful experience will leave a lasting impression on students as they approach prom season, graduation, and the summer months, when the risks of impaired driving can be heightened.
