It is with profound sadness that the South Glens Falls Central School District announces the news of the passing of veteran bus driver, Mr. James “Jimmy” VanScoy.
Jimmy was a dedicated and cherished member of our transportation team since 2005, having faithfully and safely driven students from kindergarten through 12th grade, touching the lives of countless families along the way. His warm smile and caring demeanor provided a welcoming presence on all of his routes.
In addition to being a beloved bus driver, Jimmy also served as a firefighter/fire police for the South Glens Falls Fire Company. He graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1976.
Jimmy’s wake will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St. in South Glens Falls.
Our thoughts are with Jimmy's family during this challenging time.
In this time of grief, we want to remind all members of our school community that support is available. Our team of school counselors, social workers, and psychologists are here to assist students and staff who are affected by this loss. Special accommodations were additionally provided to our transportation staff, who worked with Jimmy for nearly two decades.
Counseling has been made available for our students and staff. The district additionally had staff on hand for those students who rode bus 283 - part of Jimmy’s regular bus route - upon their arrival Wednesday morning to offer support.
