Incoming Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michele Whitley spent Monday, June 8, traveling throughout the district, taking time to visit schools and personally connect with students, staff, and administrators. Her day was filled with energy, curiosity, and a genuine excitement to learn more about the South Glens Falls Central School District community.
At each stop, our students proudly showcased what makes SGF such a special place. Students led the way on building tours, showcasing what makes each location so unique.
Dr. Whitley sat down for a lunch meeting with student council members at Ballard Elementary, toured a Career Fair at Oliver W. Winch Middle School and curated a book selection for the Scholastic Book Fair at Harrison Avenue Elementary. She also took time to visit classrooms, where she read aloud to younger students and took part in calming breathing exercises.
In true SGF spirit, the day included some fun. Dr. Whitley got a chance to practice her dance moves with students at Ballard and took part in a scavenger hunt around Moreau Elementary.
“I’m truly excited about the opportunity to lead the South Glens Falls Central School District. After touring the buildings and meeting staff, I was impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community,” she said. “What stood out most was the students. Their enthusiasm, respect, and engagement in learning were evident. It’s clear this is a place where students are supported and encouraged to succeed, and I’m looking forward to being part of that work.”
Dr. Whitley will officially start on July 1. She currently serves as the Director of K–12 Humanities and Elementary Instruction for the Saratoga Springs City School District, where she has built a strong reputation for instructional excellence and organizational leadership.
