TASC/Pre-TASC Instructor

Position Description
The TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion)/Pre-TASC Instructor at the High School is responsible for the development, implementation, operation, monitoring, and evaluation of a new in-house high school equivalency intervention program including direct instruction to equivalency diploma candidates in the areas of math, social studies, science, reading and writing. This individual provides support to both the students and their families as they move through the process of studying for, registering for, and taking the TASC assessment. The employee will also coordinate with building administration and other school staff to identify and mentor students at risk for not achieving graduation status. Finally, the employee will be responsible for coordination with NYSED on program certification and guideline implementation.

Qualifications

  • New York State Certified Teacher
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with students of diverse backgrounds and their families.
  • Ability to organize and maintain records pertaining to yearly approval of New York State TASC program and testing site certification.
  • Ability to establish and design curriculum across several general education areas and implement formative and summative assessments in relation to these subjects.

High School Principal

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction in a high school equivalency preparation course in the areas of: Math, Social Studies, Science, including reading and writing skills.
  • Responsible for teaching Pre-TASC and TASC courses using instructional methods geared toward non-traditional learners in a classroom setting. Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the TASC assessment and/or enhance basic education skills
  • Plans, develops, and implements assessments that prepare students to successfully complete the TASC Exam.
  • Serves as a liaison between school and families
  • Provides data reports to District Office and Building Principals as requested.
  • Works with students, families, and school administration to maintain student attendance and TASC program compliance
  • Oversee students in the 9th and 10th grade who are on TASC trajectory by developing interventions to avoid TASC entry
  • Liaising with Middle School staff regarding 8th graders who are on TASC trajectory to support their interventions

Terms of Employment
10- month appointment (July 1 – June 30)
Salary to be determined based on SGFFA teacher’s contract.

Evaluation
Evaluated in accordance with individual contract, state law and Board of Education.
