Ballard Supply Lists


  • 1 large book bag
  • 1 plastic pencil box – for Sampson only-soft zippered style
  • 3 boxes of Crayola crayons (24 pack)
  • 1 pair of child’s scissors (Fiskar brand work best)
  • 1 box of 10 ct. Crayola markers (thick style, not thin please)
  • 1 package of black dry erase markers with eraser (Expo brand work best)
  • 20 glue sticks
  • 15 sharpened #2 Ticonderoga brand pencils
  • 2 pink rectangular erasers
  • 1 large towel for rest time (no mats or large blankets please)
  • 1 extra set of clothes (in a gallon-size Ziploc bag)
  • 1 set of headphones in a Ziploc bag with name on it

Please note: There may be additional items specific to your child’s classroom that you will be asked to provide. Those items will be listed in the welcome letter from your child’s teacher.

First Grade

  • 2 24 pack crayons (please no neon colors)
  • 1 box of 12 colored pencils (sharpened)
  • 4-5 black fine tip dry erase markers (low odor, water base if possible)
  • 2 highlighters
  • 5-6 pink chunky erasers (please no eraser tops)
  • 1 package of sticky notes (for Reader’s/Writer’s Workshop)
  • 1 set of headphones (inexpensive work fine)
  • 1 black & white composition notebook
  • 24-28 #2 YELLOW sharpened pencils (Ticonderoga preferred)
  • 1 backpack/book bag (to lug it all in!)

Additional items for specific teachers.


  • 1 one-inch three-ring binder
  • Scissors
  • 1 plastic travel soap dish
  • 1 additional black/white composition notebook (total of 2)
  • 1 box of 16 washable markers


  • Only 1 box of crayons is needed and 12-24 is fine.
  • An old sock/mitten/glove to use as a dry erase board eraser.
  • To start the year, I have glue sticks, pencils, scissors and pencil boxes.

Second Grade

Please bring the following supplies to school labeled with your first and last name.

Writing Utensils

  • Three or four dozen Ticonderoga pencils (sharpen ahead of time if possible)
  • One box of 24 crayons
  • An 8-pack of thin multi-colored markers
  • One pack of colored pencils
  • One highlighter or one small pack of 4
  • One pack low-odor dry erase marker black only
  • One package of cap erasers or chunk erasers to share

Notebooks and Folders

  • One composition book (black and white)
  • One pack each of 3 x 3 and 3 x 5 sticky notes (light colors please)

Other Supplies

  • Four to eight glue sticks
  • One 4 oz. bottle of white glue (optional) (Bayle only)
  • Scissors
  • Canvas zip bag large enough to hold crayons, colored pencils, scissors, etc.
  • 2 two-pocket 9 x 12 folders (pockets on bottom) (1 blue, 1 yellow)
  • Headphones (labeled and in a large Ziploc baggie)

Third Grade

Please send in the following items labeled with your child’s name.

  • Scissors (reuse from second grade)
  • Headphones in a Ziploc bag with name
  • Canvas or nylon pencil bag with a zipper closure
  • 1 box of 24-count crayons
  • 1 composition notebook, wide-ruled
  • 4 folders with horizontal pockets, one of each color: green, yellow, blue and red
  • 1 folder of any other color NOT listed above OR one with a design

Please send in the following items without your child’s name.

  • 3 boxes of 24, yellow Ticonderoga #2 pencils to be shared by the class
  • Cap erasers
  • Handheld pencil sharpener that catches shavings
  • 12 colored pencils
  • 2 glue sticks
  • 1 black, fine tip dry erase marker
  • 2 pads of 3 x 3 Post-It notes

Your child will also need an inches/centimeter ruler TO KEEP AT HOME for math homework.

We eat a mid-morning snack so please bring in a healthy snack each day.

Fourth Grade

ALL supplies will be organized the first day of school. Please DO NOT try to organize at home. (Send in original packaging.)

  • 4 dozen (48 total) #2 pencils No mechanical pencils. ***Ticonderoga brand works best.
  • 1 box of 12 colored pencils
  • 1 box of 12 washable markers
  • Scissors labeled with student’s name
  • 1 pack of 5 of low odor Expo dry erase markers
  • 2 large glue sticks
  • 4 packages of Pink Pearl block erasers
  • Pencil box for supplies labeled with first and last name
  • Three hard-cover black and white composition style books (sewn binding) labeled with student’s name
  • A 1-inch RED, 3-ring binder
  • 5 three-hole punched folders in different colors: red, blue, green, yellow and one of your choice! Plastic ones work the best.
  • 3 x 3 Post-it notes (4 packs)
  • A pair of headphones (NOT earbuds) to be kept in school (Dollar Store or 5 Below ones work great)

Fifth Grade

We have requested some very specific items to help the students stay organized. If you cannot find the specific color for these items, choose items that are close. For example: No red folders? Buy a maroon folder.

Binders, Notebooks & Papers

  • 3 composition notebooks (any color)
  • No binder this year.


  • 1 blue two-pocket folder WITH metal prongs for reading


  • 1 red two-pocket folder (NO prongs) for reading
  • 1 orange two-pocket folder (NO prongs) for math
  • 1 green two-pocket folder (NO prongs) for science/social studies

Writing Utensils

  • 8 packages of Ticonderoga pencils (keep 2 at home)
  • 1 package of colored pencils (no larger than 12 count)
  • 1 package of highlighters (4 different colors – fine tip)
  • 1 black Sharpie marker ( extra-fine tip)

Other Supplies

  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 water bottle (Any color is fine but you many want to purchase clear because it is required in the middle school. No glass bottles.)
  • 1 glue stick
  • 8-12 packages of Post-It Notes
  • 1 pencil case (fabric, soft type)
  • 1 pair of headphones or earbuds
