South High Restorative Justice Committee Members to Take Part in MLK Day Celebrations

January 13, 2023

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Members of the South Glens Falls High School Restorative Justice Program have been invited to take part in the 2023 Saratoga Educational Equity Network (SEEN) Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Weekend.

According to SEEK, each year, MLK Saratoga shapes their Celebration Weekend around a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King’s speeches or writings. This year, the inspiration is the assertion, “Songs are the Soul of the Movement,” or more colloquially, More Music, More Peace.

As a part of that celebration, current and former members for the SGF Restorative Justice Committee have been invited to partake in a panel discussion. Participating in the panel discussion will be 2022 graduates Abigail Petteys and Alearyah Carr along with current students junior Ashley Li and freshman Madeline Goliber.

SEEK states the students will share the positive impact restorative practices have on their peers, staff, and their school community.

“This discussion moves toward more music, more peace, and a society that can live with its conscience through the redirection of disciplinary resources toward building empathy, compassion, and the content of one’s character,” SEEK states.

“I am so thrilled with the work around Restorative Justice and elevating student voices that is happening in South Glens Falls, especially at our high school, and I’m proud that our team will be participating in this important community event. This work has been meaningful for so many in our school community, and it deserves to be shared.”

The SGF team will be on hand to discuss Restorative Justice at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Saratoga Public Library. For more information about the event click here
