South Glens Falls High School a cappella group to compete at quarterfinals

Vocal Point, South Glens Falls High School’s select a cappella group, will be making their sixth appearance in the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA). The group will be competing against eight other high school a cappella groups on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 in the tournament’s Northeast Quarterfinal. Vocal Point will try to reprise their successful 2018 ICHSA showing, when they advanced to the Northeast Semifinal for the first time.

Event Details

Held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Curtis R. Preim Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), the competition will begin at 7 p.m. General Admission is $25; Student with ID General Admission is $20. Tickets may be purchased online ( or at the door. Quarterfinal competitors include Mohonasen High School’s For Good Measure.

EMPAC is located at 110 8th Street in Troy.

Varsity Vocals

The International Championship of High School A Cappella is sponsored by Varsity Vocals. This organization has been promoting global student a cappella tournaments at the collegiate (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) and high school levels since 1995. High school and collegiate groups are required to submit audition materials to gain acceptance into the tournament.

Vocal Point

Vocal Point is a curricular music performing ensemble at South Glens Falls High School. Under the direction of Mrs. Betsy Stambach-Fuller, the singing group of 15 students has represented the community nationally and internationally through their ICHSA involvement, national performance tours (Los Angeles, Memphis and Orlando, Florida), and professional recording studio work. They recently hosted the fifth annual TuneUp A Cappella Festival in South Glens Falls.
