South Glens Falls CSD BOE will begin search for new superintendent; seeks interim superintendent

November 28, 2017

The South Glens Falls Central School District Board of Education unanimously voted at its Nov. 20 meeting to work with WSWHE BOCES District Superintendent James Dexter to begin the process of developing and implementing a comprehensive search plan for the next SGFCSD superintendent of schools.

This action comes following the decision of the district’s current Superintendent of Schools Michael Patton, Ed.D, to leave South Glens Falls at the end of December to become the superintendent of schools in the Saratoga Springs City School District.

The board will be conducting a full search for a new superintendent, which is expected to be extensive and inclusive, and involve employees, parents, students and community stakeholders. The board is hoping to select and appoint a candidate to the position to begin by July 1, 2018.

Prior to the search for a permanent superintendent, the board will be working to find a strong, experienced interim superintendent to serve the district from January through June 2018. The board has begun to identify potential interim candidates, and expects that the interim superintendent will be appointed within the next few weeks.

“Our board of education has wished Dr. Patton well in the next step in his career, however we are quite confident in the search process that Mr. Dexter will lead,” said Board of Education President William Elder. “The board is prepared to move forward with an interim superintendent to support our strong central administration staff and our building administrators, and to assist with the transition of our new superintendent.”
