Proposed South Glens Falls High School site plan.

South Glens Falls Central School District residents approved a $57.8 million capital project on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015. The project will advance and improve instructional programming; improve health, safety, handicapped-accessibility compliance and security measures; achieve energy efficiencies and other cost-saving measures; and protect the community’s long-term investment in its school facilities.

Tree removal will begin this week (February 26, 2018) to prepare the site for the high school improvements. Construction is expected to begin in this area in March.

Proposed SGF High School Improvements

(Estimated completion date is Aug. 2020.)

  • Construct eight-classroom science addition and renovate two additional science classrooms to modernize science learning experience and provide more opportunities for students
  • Upgrade auditorium lighting and sound systems, add air conditioning, and renovate orchestra room
  • Renovate classrooms to provide better program experiences for students
  • Upgrade athletic facilities by expanding fields, adding two new tennis courts and basketball court and resurfacing the existing track
  • Improve site drainage in rear parking lot
  • Increase parking capacity
  • Construct separate bus and parent drop-off areas to improve student safety and efficient traffic patterns
  • Improve security at building entrance
  • Relocation of administrative center
  • Construct student innovation and learning lab space

It is important to note that the district is aware of and will abide by the minimum 75-foot setback from the back property line of our Pine Valley Drive neighbors to the new bus access road that will be constructed to connect Tanglewood Drive to the new side entrance of the high school. The new traffic pattern will improve safety by keeping student and staff vehicles separate from buses. The buffer of trees will be maintained and the fence along the property line will be reinstalled along the outside of the bus loop.
