February 7, 2020

Student in auditoriumSGFHS Junior Madison Farr was one of nine playwrights selected to participate in the 24-hour Art in the Public Eye Play Fest, a writing, directing and acting competition to be held Feb. 7-8, at the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls.

“I’m really excited,” Farr said. “I’m really excited to write and express myself in front of an audience, I’m excited to share my work with other people and I’m excited to work with adults!”

On Friday night, Farr and the eight other playwrights, nine directors and 40 actors will attend the event’s opening at 7 p.m. Once she gets her writing assignment, she will have until 5 a.m. to submit a finished piece of work.

Rehearsals will take place throughout the day, culminating in an evening of performances and voting on best writer, best director, best actor and best actress.

At South Glens Falls HS, Farr has been part of the tech crew for the school’s drama club, and will be working as tech crew again in the production of Damn Yankees this year.

SGFHS music and theatre teacher Betsy Stambach-Fuller said the drama club is planning to perform one of Farr’s full-length plays, “Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper,” this spring.
