June 13, 2019

Matt GriepThe South Glens Falls CSD is excited to welcome Matthew Griep as the new Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics. Griep will assume the position on July 1, 2019.

Griep was most recently the assistant director of student activities at W.T Woodson High School in the Fairfax County Public Schools in Fairfax County, Va., where he assisted with all aspects of student activities, including both athletic and non-athletic events and opportunities.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Bulldog team and to work with the students, staff and community members in building upon an already-reputable Health and PE curriculum and athletic program,” Griep said. “I’ve met with many people throughout the interview process and they all share the same enthusiasm and passion for the SGF community and I love that about the district. When a school system has that kind of support from its staff and community, great traditions and the foundation for success already exists, it’s a fun and exciting environment to be a part of.”

“Matt has a wide array of experiences in the classroom and in athletics that make him an ideal fit for this position in South Glens Falls,” said Superintendent of Schools Kristine Orr. “We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the Bulldog family!”

Griep received a bachelor of science in both health education and physical education from East Stroudsburg University and later a masters of education in educational leadership from George Mason University. Griep also has extensive coaching experience—he has coached soccer, basketball, baseball and golf at the varsity level. In 2017, he was named All-Met Boys Soccer Coach of the Year by The Washington Post.

Prior to becoming an administrator, Griep taught physical education and health education for 10 years at both the elementary and secondary levels.

Griep will replace current director Nick McPartland who is leaving South Glens Falls to become director of athletics at the Saratoga Springs City School District. The selection process included a committee of individuals that was composed of parents, teachers, staff and students.
