SGF working to finalize Envision 2025 Capital Project plans

January 14, 2022

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – The South Glens Falls Central School District is in the final stages of planning a new capital project to make upgrades to several areas on campus. The district has been working to address the most immediate needs, with the help of both a committee, public survey and building condition survey. Architecture firm CSArch has been hired to design the project.

Why is the district embarking on capital planning now even though the district just completed another capital project?

Just like a house, school facilities need regular upkeep and attention. Some of this can be done yearly through the school district budget. However, just like a large home improvement project may require a loan, some school district projects require additional funding. Capital improvement projects allow school districts to complete a significant amount of facilities work sooner than they would otherwise be able to accomplish within the scope of the annual school budget.

What projects are being considered for the proposal?

  • Middle school:
    • Renovate the LGI, including adding a retractable seating system and reconstruction of the stage,
    • Relocate public bathrooms from the lobby to improve entry space,
    • Improve library
    • Upgrade and improve ceilings, lighting, paint, flooring in classrooms
    • Modernize locker rooms
    • Relocate the seventh-grade science lab and make improvements to facilities.
    • Expand the band classroom
    • Improve modern learning spaces and relocate the nurses’ office to the main entry for easier public access

  • May 4: Capital project community information session at 6:30 p.m.
  • May 17: Capital project public vote 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Phase II – Middle School renovations
