SGF Bulldog Spotlight: Lisa Catalfamo

May 22, 2018

Social worker Lisa Catalfamo and her dog PonchoSGFCSD School Social Worker Lisa Catalfamo is this month’s employee to be featured in the monthly SGF Bulldog Staff Spotlight. In this monthly feature, employees from around the district are highlighted. And while he’s not an official employee, we’re excited to feature Poncho, Catalfamo’s therapy dog who works alongside her in our buildings.

Name: Lisa Catalfamo and Poncho

Position in the district and building where you work: Social Worker, Harrison and Ballard elementary schools

How long have you worked in the district? This is my third year in SGF and my 20th year as a school social worker.

What is your favorite aspect of your job? I would say, that even though we are often dealing with really intense, sometimes sad and certainly complex issues, kids are always pretty happy to see us. Their resilience, enthusiasm and strength in the face of adversity is humbling. On frustrating days, I remind myself that it is a privilege to be part of the lives of our students and families; and I’m thankful to work with so many great colleagues. And of course, when a student has earned Poncho time with their Bulldog Bucks–that’s the best!

What do you like to do outside of school? I spend a lot of time at home with my husband and our animals. In addition to Poncho we have three more dogs and a small farm with goats and chickens. I also enjoy traveling and photography. One thing that is really important to me outside of school is my work with local immigrants and presenting on immigration reform.
