Name: Alicia Pierce

Position in the district and building where you work:
School social worker at Ballard Elementary School

How long have you worked in the district?
I am currently in my first year with the South Glens Falls Central School District.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?
My favorite aspect of my job is getting to know students and creating positive, meaningful relationships with them. It’s a privilege to participate in the healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development of students in the building. I enjoy supporting classroom teachers and working collaboratively with all staff to help students find success. I hope that my role helps students and staff feel supported and fosters an environment conducive to positive personal and academic growth.

Tell us why you believe in SGF and the work we do for the community:
The district’s recognition of the importance of mental health is very encouraging. This has most directly impacted me through the expansion of Social Work Services throughout the district and the creation of new full-time positions, including my own at Ballard. Students who have access to mental health support from a young age are more likely to receive counseling services, develop healthy coping mechanisms and self-regulation skills, get connected to appropriate resources both in and out of school, and experience reduced stigma towards mental health challenges. The district’s continued efforts to promote mental health benefit not only student success and well-being but that of the entire South Glens Falls community.

What do you like to do outside of school?
Outside of school, I enjoy travelling to new places, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with my family.
