Regular Meeting – September 16, 2019

The South Glens Falls Central School District Board of Education, Saratoga County, New York, met in regular session on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Harrison Avenue Elementary School, 76 Harrison Avenue, South Glens Falls, New York.

Call to Order:
President Elder called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., led the Pledge of Allegiance and advised everyone that the meeting was being audio-recorded.

Members Present:
Christine Dawson, William Elder, Roger Fedele, John Farrell, Kimberly Henkel, Lisa Hogan and Kevin Ostrander

Absent: Thomas Kurtz, Jeff Riggi

District Officials Present:
District Officials present were Kristine Orr, Superintendent of Schools, Timothy Dawkins, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Audrey Varney, Business Manager and District Clerk.

PRESENTATIONS:

Harrison Avenue Elementary School Building Report
“Because You Matter”
Principal Biviano provided an update on Harrison Avenue Elementary School’s progress in relation to the District’s Goals: Safety & Security, Future Ready Schools and Mental Health. The implementation of Social Emotional Learning was also highlighted by Ms. Biviano and Coach Kenney.

Opening of School Reports – Building Principals
Each of the 6 Building Principals reported on the opening of school, the first two weeks of school, special activities and upcoming events.

Tenure Recognition
Ms. Orr presented certificates to Ms. Brockenbrough, Mr. Howard and Mrs. Barton in recognition of their award of tenure.

BOARD OF EDUCATION COMMITTEE REPORTS

WSWHE BOCES (Mr. Ostrander)
Mr. Ostrander discussed recent WSWHE BOCES meetings and the new Ballard Road Office location. Ms. Orr spoke to the ribbon cutting and new space.

Policy Committee
(Dr. Dawson, Mrs. Hogan, Mr. Kurtz, Mr. Riggi)
Ms. Orr discussed the review process of NYSSBA policies, district policy updates and schedule for committee review.

Public Forum #1:
Mr. Ziegler expressed concern for the High School and Middle School transportation for future students and possibility of reducing time on the buses.

Mr. Currie asked the board to consider consolidating routes and review of the Ballard area transfers. He also requested the district explore separate middle school and high school bus runs.

Adjournment to Executive Session
Motion by Mrs. Henkel, second by Mrs. Hogan and unanimously carried 7/0 adjourned the meeting to Executive Session to discuss Litigation and Personnel at 8:14 p.m.

Motion by Mrs. Hogan second by Mr. Ostrander and unanimously carried 7/0 returned the meeting to open session at 9:38 p.m.
