Frequently Asked Questions from Families

COVID-19

Will we talk to students about COVID-19/coronavirus in general?

We will have a toolkit available to all teachers and families with resources on how to talk to students about COVID-19.

PPE

Masks

What are the options if we want to send our children to school but we do not want them to wear a mask?

By the NYS Department of Health regulations, students are required to wear masks in school. Please visit www.sgfcsd.org/virtual-school if you do not want your child to wear a mask in school.

Can I wear a face shield or face shield attached to a hat instead of a mask?

No, according to the guidance from the New York State Department of Health, face shields cannot be worn in place of masks. However, you can wear a mask AND a face shield.

Can the masks be homemade or do we need to use the issued ones?

Yes, you can use homemade cloth face coverings.

Are masks with a clear window acceptable?

Yes.

How do we prevent students from sharing masks?

We will encourage families to label masks and keep to themselves, similar to other personal items like headphones.

How often will my child be required to have the mask on?

Masks must be worn at all times. However, students do not need to wear them during snack time and meal time. We must create face covering breaks for students when they can socially distance. This will be done during times of instruction when we know that students are 6 feet apart.

Will kids be required to wear masks in class if there are only 15 students per class?

Masks must be worn at all times. However, students do not need to wear them during snack time and meal time. We must create face covering breaks for students when they can socially distance. This will be done during times of instruction when we know that students are 6 feet apart.

If we are distanced in the classroom do we have to wear masks?

Masks must be worn at all times. However, students do not need to wear them during snack time and meal time. We must create face covering breaks for students when they can socially distance. This will be done during times of instruction when we know that students are 6 feet apart.

What health reasons make students not have to wear a mask?

Please contact your building principal or nurse to discuss your child’s specific situation.

What happens when a student refuses to wear a mask? What if a student wears a mask under their nose or does silly things like punching holes through the mask?

A student will not be allowed in a school building without a mask. If the student refuses to wear one, they will be sent home until they agree to wear one. Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken if students continue to refuse.

Will students be required to wear masks while being instructed at their desks? Mask breaks are going to be the full instruction time?

Depending on the activity, if students are seated 6 ft apart, they will be provided with mask breaks.

During class time students will not be required to wear masks? What happens when students cough or sneeze in a classroom?

We will be teaching the students proper protocols on the use of tissues and how to dispose of them properly.

I see a lot of people are concerned about staff following mask and distancing protocols. Would you address this please?

The masks and social distancing guidelines are set by the NYS Department of Health. They have been communicated with the faculty association, administrators association and CSEA. All faculty and staff are aware of the guidelines for masks, social distancing and health screening.

Are neck gaiters an acceptable alternative to face masks asking as the child is covering their nose and mouth?

According to July 30th guidance from the state, neck gaiters are acceptable.

Health/Safety

If there is a positive diagnosis, will the entire elementary school need to be quarantined?

Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis. Our district nurses have completed the John Hopkins Tracer Course. They will work with the Saratoga County Department of Health on contact tracing.

What is protocol if a child is tested for COVID? The test results are still taking 7-10 days for results. Would people in contact with that child need to quarantine?

Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis. Our nurses have completed the John Hopkins Tracer Course. They will work with the Saratoga County Department of Health on contact tracing.

What happens if there is a positive case in a building? Or a presumed positive case? Can you explain the contact tracing procedure?

Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis. Our nurses have completed the John Hopkins Tracer Course. They will work with the Saratoga County Department of Health on contact tracing.

If a child spikes a fever for strep throat, for example, do they have to stay home for 14 days?

No. They should contact their pediatrician and discuss this. Protocol states that a student must be fever-free for at least 24 straight hours before returning to school. However, some may choose to wait 72 hours before returning to school.

What happens if one member of the household is sick with cold symptoms? Or when one sibling is sick with cold symptoms but the other is not?

Students are required to stay home when they are showing symptoms of any sickness. The school will refer them to their pediatrician to make determinations on if they should be tested. They do not need to stay home if a household member has symptoms.

Will staff and students be required to be tested for COVID-19 for any cold symptoms and receive negative test results before returning to school?

No, that is not part of the NYS Department of Health requirements.

If a teacher or student tests positive for COVID-19, will the entire classroom be required to be sent home and tested with negative results before returning to school?

Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis. Our nurses have completed the John Hopkins Tracer Course. They will work with the Saratoga County Department of Health on contact tracing.

Will school nurses be administering any rapid COVID-19 tests for staff and students on school campus?

No.

Do families all need the same thermometer so results don’t vary by brand or site used ie forehead versus oral versus armpit?

No, but we recommend that they use the same one daily.

Are you going to be transparent if people or kids test positive? Will anyone be able to know, not just if they were affected?

Our nurses are trained in contact tracing and you will be notified if your child was affected either by the DOH, nurse or building principal. We cannot disclose information about individual persons in accordance with HIPAA (health information) and privacy laws.

Will there be any COVID testing available for staff and students?

If you feel that you have been exposed, please contact your healthcare provider about COVID testing. Currently, there is not a protocol to include school staff for COVID testing by the NYS Department of Health.

What about medications that kids take a take at school? Are they still able to do that with the nurse?

Yes, these procedures have not changed.

How will contact tracing occur with elementary students who don’t have a classroom bathroom. You can’t possibly track who else from other rooms went to the bathroom at the same time?

In classrooms without bathrooms, students will sign out to use the bathroom. The sign out sheet will be collected each day and stored in the nurse’s office to assist with contact tracing.

How will fire drills be handled? Lockdown drills?

We are awaiting additional guidance on how these drills will be handled.

If a staff member is exposed or travels to states with growing infection numbers, will families be notified? Will they be required to provide a negative test before returning?

Staff has been notified of the current policy regarding travel. We are following the governor’s and NYS Department of Health’s guidelines for self quarantine and contact tracing, if applicable.

Are the filters in school for ventilation (filtration, clean air circulations, windows) up to standards? Will windows be open? How will this be addressed in the winter?

All of our ventilation systems have been reviewed and tested. We will be increasing our air ventilation in classrooms by at least twice what they are now.

How often will buses be sanitized?

Nightly.

If a teacher or substitute teacher tests positive, are all students and families then subject to a 14-day DOH quarantine?

We will follow the NYS Department of Health’s guidelines for contact tracing, quarantine and notification.

Will kids be allowed to bring their own hand sanitizer with them and use it throughout the day?

Yes.

Does a student need a note from the doctor to return to school if they have a temp greater than 100?

We will be referring all students with a fever to their pediatrician. We encourage them to get a clearance from their doctor to return but they are not allowed to return until their temperature is normal. We have protocols in place to check the temperature of these students when they return.

Screening

I feel very unsettled about relying on other parents to do the right thing and take their child’s temperature each morning. Will the district be contacting all families to make sure they have a working thermometer and providing one if needed?

We will be sharing information to families about health and safety practices and how to take their child’s temperature. Families should contact the district if they need a working thermometer.

How will the district address non-compliance or inaccurate reporting on the self screener?

We will work with the families to ensure compliance with the NYS Department of Health guidelines for school.

Will there be specific guidance for when to send my child to school and when to keep them home because of illness?

Yes, we will put together an information sheet for families on this.

It talks about international traveling and traveling to hot states? Is this applicable to the student or someone in their household?

Right now it only applies to the student as per the NYS Department of Health.

I don’t understand why the teachers can’t take the students’ temperatures before entering the classroom.

The NYS Department of Health guidance recommends that students are checked prior to coming to school.

I have to be at work more than 30 minutes before the kids have to report to school. I cannot do it according to your timeline.

You can do the self assessment anytime before school. We are just encouraging our families to do this no less than 30 minutes before school.

Will kids that have to submit their screening be permitted to enter the building?

Parents will submit health screening information for each child each morning before they leave for school using a website called Pinpoint Health. More information will follow with directions.

Will they be required to fill out the email notifications through the school system as well?

The daily email notification will be sent to parents with an option to choose a text alert instead. Please contact your building to make sure that your email address is up to date.

If the form for screening is not filled out daily, will the child be allowed into the school the day it is not submitted?

The building principal and nurse will receive a report each morning prior to arrival with students who have not had completed screeners. The students will be isolated and parents contacted.

How can I be sure that an outside entity follows the school protocols for screening? I want to make sure they are accountable as well.

All buildings will limit visitors. Anyone who enters the building (i.e., substitutes, community center workers, vendors, contract employees, etc.) will have to complete the health screener prior to entry.

Will the daily health evaluation include questioning whether they have visited/spent time in a “quarantine ” state ? If so, what protocols will they have to follow? (I appreciate that the student doesn’t generally have a say in travel plans.)

The health screening uses the questions in the Reopening New York Guidelines. They are:

  1. Knowingly been in close or proximate contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive through a diagnostic test for COVID-19 or who has or had symptoms of COVID-19;
  2. Tested positive through a diagnostic test for COVID-19 in the past 14 days;
  3. Has experienced any symptoms of COVID-19,including a temperature of greater than 100.0°F, in the past 14 days; and/or
  4. Has traveled internationally or from a state with widespread community transmission of COVID-19 per the New York State Travel Advisory in the past 14 days.

Social Distancing

With social distancing and students required to be kept apart, will there be less movement in the classroom or will students be more stationary?

We will work with teachers on instructional strategies to allow for students to work separately and also for times where students may need to work together.

With the block schedule, I understand the minimal contact for passing in hallways but with students in a class with potentially full capacity, how will social distancing be achieved?

With the hybrid model, classes will be at 50% capacity to ensure social distancing guidelines.

Will teachers be able to be within 6 feet of our children, as long as they are masked?

Both student and teacher must wear a mask if they are within 6 feet of each other.

What about groups like Girl Scouts using the school for meetings in the evenings?

Usage of our buildings by outside groups may be limited to ensure opportunities for deep cleaning.

How will social distancing work in middle/high school hallways (in between classes)?

The building is working on mapping out traffic patterns and passing time. More details will come from the building principal.

Food Service

With food service having a no-touch system are you still allowed to send in a check for payment?

The no-touch system is for student check out in the building. They previously had to put in a pin number. You can still send in a check or use a credit card to add money to their account.

Will students be eating lunch in the cafeteria?

The buildings are working to develop a schedule for lunch. The location will be based on room capacity, cleaning schedule and number of students.

Will hot lunch still be available at the high school when kids are in building?

We are working on a hot lunch grab and go option.

Will students be allowed to bring packed lunches (in lunchbox) or does everything need to be disposable?
Yes they can bring packed lunches in lunch boxes.

I can’t guarantee that my child will be able to have access to curbside pickup? Will there be delivery services provided?
We are hoping to provide food for the following days on the days that your child attends.

School Structure and Support

If the governor recommends that all kids K-5 should be in school 100% – will that happen right off?

Based on the current social distancing guidelines of 6 feet from the governor and NYS Department of Health, our schools do not have the capacity to be at 100% with our current enrollment, class size and building space.

Are you still offering the in-school SAT in October?

Yes.

Will school supply lists be similar to other years?

Supply lists will be sent out based on your student’s building and grade.

Will there be opportunities for students to meet their teachers and tour new buildings?

Information about orientation for kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade will come from the building. Details are still being finalized at this time.

Can you change your mind about if you are comfortable with your kid being in school?

If your child is enrolled in virtual school and you want them to return to in-person learning sooner than the designated time frame, please contact your building principal to discuss this.

Is there a breakdown of what will be in the toolkits? My child needs to be “precursed” about these things to help with difficulties.

The parent/family toolkit will include resources regarding PPE, health & safety, school structure & technology, social-emotional learning and communications. This will be shared in mid-August.

Scheduling

Will siblings be in the same groups if there is a hybrid model? How will students be separated into groups for the hybrid model?

The district’s goal is to place siblings in the same group. The groups will be based on transportation needs and student households.

If we go to a hybrid model, what happens on the days students are not in school? Will they have work to do?

Yes, students will have work to do when they are not in school. They will be expected to check in for daily attendance.

If we move to a hybrid model, what should parents do if they have to work full time?

We understand that this puts a burden on families and child care. We encourage parents to start looking for providers now. We are trying to get our elementary schools to 100% as soon as possible and we are hopeful that we can do this quickly.

Will there be specific guidelines for students when they are working remotely?

Yes, teachers will be providing guidelines for work on days that students are not in-person. There will be specific attendance requirements for virtual learning days for all students. Virtual days are still considered school days.

Can a family opt to send one student in person and opt to keep a second child home to learn through the virtual-only model?

Yes.

Will students be able to participate in band or chorus in a hybrid block model?

Yes, the goal is for students to be able to participate in these electives.

If my child has to stay home because they are sick, should they participate in their classes virtually?

Students should always participate in their assigned classwork as their health allows. As always, they would be responsible for checking in with their teacher on the next day that they are able to participate in class.

Will families have the option to do remote learning for middle school if they prefer that over hybrid?

Yes.

Will there be any consideration for K-5 students returning to school every day versus the group 1 and group 2?

Our goal is to get to 100% in-person learning for all students while adhering to the guidelines of social distancing set forth by the NYS Department of Health. We are currently not able to do that with our building capacity and class size.

Will remote learning for the youngest learners be accommodating to working families? Or will they be required to log in at specific times during the day?

Once we have a finalized model and staffing in place, we will ask that each teacher contact families on these concerns.

If you feel you are at the point to reach 100%, how soon will you be able to implement that?

We will implement a 100% in-person plan as soon as we are able to ensure our ability to fully comply with the NY State Education Department’s and NYS Department of Health’s guidelines for this model. This will be an ongoing discussion for us as the situation progresses.

How will the class split (hybrid) version be determined? By neighborhood, name or other?

The groups will take into consideration siblings (across all buildings), neighborhood, daycare, carpooling needs of families in an effort to keep cohorts of students together.

If in-person learning is allowed, is SGF and other districts going to pick the same model? I’m concerned that parents, staff or faculty may be affected which in turn affects the students.

Schools have different reasons for different models. No one model will be in place because of this.

What if class size (due to families who choose distance learning or homeschool) is less than 15 – will class go everyday?

We will continually evaluate whether or not we are in a place to move to 100% in-person attendance based on the size.

Will transitioning grade levels (kindergarten, sixth, and ninth) be able to tour the building before the first day?

Information about orientation for kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade will come from the building. Details are still being finalized at this time.

Will teachers be in the classroom 5 days a week?

Yes.

For remote learning, will teachers follow a strict schedule that students can follow?

There will be a defined schedule if the entire district goes to remote learning.

It appears that some school districts in the area are proposing slightly different models. Since we fall underneath the same region when it comes to this situation, wouldn’t it be wise that all schools in the area should follow the same model?

Because of many variables (transportation, the number of schools, the number of extra rooms in a building, etc.), districts will not be able to follow the same model.

Why can’t the hybrid model be 1 week in person and rotate, the next week off… and why can’t the hybrid have the “at-home students” logged into Google Meet with the classroom for instruction?

Both of these could be the case. We are working with our local BOCES to finalize students that leave the district for outside instruction. This will help us better formulate our plans.

Are we able to request our child/children be in a particular group to help support childcare needs on off days?

Please talk to your building principal.

Can we start with a hybrid model and then switch to a 100% virtual?

We will work with individual families that request to go all virtual during the year. Available spaces may be part of the conversation.

How can we communicate what our cohort group will be so we can plan accordingly to assist families who need to work outside the home full time?

Contact your building principal.

Why is “livestreaming” live class not an option for those at home for hybrid or virtual school?

Live streaming may be an option. We are currently working out details for these models.

Would the groups rotate on Fridays? Will Group A (secondary) always be on Monday?

A specific schedule will be sent to you in the coming weeks.

UPK/Elementary

Can UPK be remote?

We are working with the UPK teachers to develop a plan for this model. Their director will send specific information out to you

Will UPK students be virtual learning every other day as well?

We are working with the UPK teachers to develop a plan for this model. Their director will send specific information out to you.

At the elementary level will the same classroom teacher be doing in-person learning to half the class as well as remote to the other half or will it be different staff?

In the hybrid model, the classroom teacher will be providing the in-person and at-home instruction for both groups of students. It can be synchronous or asynchronous.

How will students be supervised during K-5 lunch?

Students will be supervised by staff members. We are finalizing all lunch schedules at the building level.

For the elementary level, how many days per week will they be receiving in-person instruction? Will this alternate or will there be set days per week they are there? How does this impact them on “holidays off” they could be missing more school as a result.

A calendar will be shared outlining the days of in-person or at-home instruction for each group.

Secondary

I don’t understand the block schedule. If they have math every other day (A/C) but then only go to school every other day they are only getting each subject every 4 days?

We are creating a very specific schedule and calendar so that students are very clear on their responsibilities each day. It should be published in the next two weeks.

The block schedule sounds great but I worry it isn’t very realistic. Teenagers are not going to sit and concentrate on learning for 80 minutes. Most struggle now to focus the entire class.

Many schools already have adopted this and students usually like this schedule more because they focus on fewer subjects daily.

Do you plan on staying on block schedule at the HS when the health crisis ends?

We are approaching the schedule one year at a time.

With the 4-day block schedule does that mean it is a 4-day week and kids will have a 3-day weekend?

No. In a A/B/C/D block schedule, the A starts again on the next day of instruction.

Will backpacks be allowed and will they have locker use?

Yes.

Will the block scheduling at the HS, along with a 50% hybrid model, limit the number of courses students can take?

A block schedule allows for 8 classes to be scheduled. A block schedule in our case is the previous 9-period schedule broken down over two days into 4 x 80-minute blocks each day. We are also adjusting some music classes so that students can get most of their requests.

Would it be hybrid by courses we take?

No. The hybrid schedule would not change based on chosen courses.

Can high school students wear baseball hats with clips that act as ear savers for the masks?

Please refer to the SGFHS Student Handbook for information regarding the dress code.

When will the block schedule town hall with Mr. Mody take place?

Tentative plan is the third week of August. Please look for communication from Mr. Mody.

Special Education/504

How will related services work for students if we move to a hybrid model?

To the best extent possible, we will be providing related services in person. If a student has a high level of service and we are in a hybrid model, the related service instruction would have to be in a hybrid format as well. The important piece is that we will aim to provide face-to-face services as much as possible. Guidance from the NYS Education Department still allows for flexibility in delivery of services.

What about UPK students with an IEP?

UPK students with an IEP will be provided services face to face to the best extent possible. Preschool providers do not work for the District so it will be at the agencies discretion as to their model of delivery. South Glens Falls Schools will welcome UPK providers face to face when students are in the building. UPK parents also have the flexibility of changing their service location. Services can be provided at UPK, at home or at an agency.

How will 504/IEP guidelines be followed for the students on their online days? Extra instruction/focus prompts? What about kids with these protocols in place when it comes to extra time requirements for lessons?

All staff associated with a student with an IEP or 504 are mandated to provide accommodations and modifications based on each individual plan. Special Education teachers work closely with the regular education teachers to provide access through google classroom and virtual learning. IEP services such as resource room, consultant teacher or integrated co-teaching services will meet the mandated minutes when the student is face to face with the block schedule.

What happens with children like mine, that have transitioned to a general education classroom from a special ed classroom? What kind of day will they have?

Please contact the Director of Special Education with specific questions.

For students with a 504 or IEP, how will we know when a child will qualify for potentially being in school on days when they’d otherwise be home for “virtual” days?

Please contact the Director of Special Education with specific student questions.

What about 504 accommodations? Extra time for lessons, extra explanations/focus prompts?

Please contact the Director of Special Education with specific student questions.

What about 504 plans? A child with add, will there be accommodations made during the block scheduling? or during the hybrid online portions?

Yes. Please contact the Director of Special Education with specific questions.

How are internships going to work? My son is Special Ed returning as he graduated.

The special education department is trying to work with local companies to see who is willing to allow us into due internships. Specific information will come out to each family.

How can online instructions meet 504 guidelines of classroom lessons happening at the same time? Looks like a lot of back and forth for the teachers which will take away from the teacher-student connection and lesson giving.

Please contact the Director of Special Education with specific student questions.

Social-Emotional Learning

Concerned with SEL for youngest students. What strategies are elementary teachers learning about to help nurture the little ones?

A SEL toolkit will be provided to all teachers, staff and families to support SEL for all students PreK-12.

A big part of kindergarten is social learning. Will the kids be allowed to play?

We will need to try and keep to the 6-foot social distance rule. However, when instruction needs to be within 6 feet, masks will be worn.

Virtual School

Can you switch to the virtual school if you start with the hybrid model?

If there is room and people feel uncomfortable we will try to provide what is best for the student, but in some situations we may not be able to make the change.

Will virtual school teacher assignments be separate from a child’s classroom teacher?

Once we have the numbers for virtual school, we will be able to answer this question.

Will students be able to participate in band or chorus in a Virtual School?

This will depend on the number of students who are participating in Virtual School and the district will not be able to confirm until the schedule is further finalized.

For students living in “high-risk” households, will you offer a distance learning option? If virtual isn’t an option, are we able to pull our kids and homeschool? Will you give us direction on homeschooling?

We will always allow homeschooling. Please contact batesk@sgfcsd.org for more information.

The draft says that we might have an option to choose an all-remote learning option for the first trimester. If we want our child to learn at home all school year, will we have to unenroll our child and homeschool? Other districts in the area are offering a remote learning option for the whole school year.

You can find details about the virtual school here: www.sgfcsd.org/virtual-school. We will re-evaluate each trimester (elementary) and semester (secondary).

Would kids have accommodations made for kids to learn in the evening due to parents working?

Yes.

Will students attending CTE programs that meet M-F be transported each day, even if it’s their remote learning day?

We are working closely with the WSWHE BOCES on this and we will have more information coming regarding CTE programs.

Is virtual school only for those with students/family with health risks or are you encouraging more in order to move to 100% in person?

Virtual school is an option for any family who feels that it is the right choice for their student.

Will virtual school teacher assignments be separate from a child’s classroom teacher?

We are still working on this at this time.

If someone has elected to do virtual school for K-5, will the student be learning with his/her regular class and teacher or will it be a completely separate classroom?

We are still working on this at this time.

Will virtual school continue even when pandemic ends?

The need for virtual school will be assessed based on data. It will not be required by the state when the pandemic ends.

Will there be a cut off size and or a cut off date for the virtual sign up?

Aug. 7 is the deadline to sign up for virtual school. There is no cutoff size at this time.

How much of a time commitment is full virtual kindergarten?

Daily attendance will be taken. There will be a schedule for all grade levels when students are expected to be online or working independently.

How can I request my child be in a group with another child? Some “friend group“ parents can help when needed.

Please contact your building principal.

Will we have the opportunity to switch to remote learning in the winter after starting in person school in the fall?

Continuation of virtual school will be assessed after the first trimester/semester.

Did you mention what the time frame is for parents choosing 100% remote learning? Can they only opt in each quarter or trimester?

To ensure the continuity of learning and for assessment and grading purposes, virtual school enrollment at the elementary level is one trimester and one semester at the middle/high school level.

If a family planned for their student in the HS to ride with another student, can they be placed on the same day block schedule?

Please contact your building principal.

As a family, can we opt to 100% virtual learning after the start of the school year?

We are currently building the virtual school model right now. If there is room, we will accommodate the request.

How do you go from virtual back into in person?

Please contact your building principal.

Can we do a virtual informative meeting, similar to this, regarding virtual school?

Additional information will be provided at a later date.

If someone has elected to do virtual school for K-5, will the student be learning with his/her regular class and teacher or will it be a completely separate classroom?

We are still working on this at this time.

If I choose to put my kids in person schooling (hybrid) and they hate it can they be changed to virtual? Or if they do virtual will they still be able to participate in school sports schools the state allow them to start sports?

If there are sports offered under the direction of the state, students will be able to participate.

Can we sign kids up for the hybrid model but choose to keep them home to do virtual for a few weeks to see how things work out?

The deadline to register for virtual school is Aug. 7. It is important for us to build a virtual school with accurate numbers. Since this is new to the district, there will be a variety of items to coordinate. With that being said, we will work with all of our families on this transition.

Will immune-compromised students get a higher priority when deciding to enroll in online school later in the year?

Every student has the right to this option.

Do we “enroll” to opt-out of virtual school?

Your student will be part of the hybrid model unless you choose to enroll in virtual school.

Communication

A previous email indicated that Governor Andrew Cuomo will shut down our schools, if the “infectiion rate,” goes above 5%. Where is that reported? The NYS Dept of Health website lists “percent positive tests,” by county. Is this considered the infectivity rate?

Information can be found on the governor’s website here: https://forward.ny.gov/percentage-positive-results-region-dashboard.

If there is a virtual piece is there a way to do training for the parents so that we know how to operate different apps and where we are supposed to find information? I had a difficult time keeping everything straight.

More information will be made available regarding resources and training for parents to support technology and instruction.

Transportation

Will the Tanglewood school loosen it’s policy on older siblings walking younger siblings home? To avoid riding the bus.

The building principal will be sending out new guidelines soon.

Can children in the same daycare sit together?

No. Only siblings.

Would it help if we drove our kids if possible?

Yes, please contact the bus garage ASAP with your plan.

How do we request students to be in the same block? Transportation arrangements have been made and it will only work if they go to school at the same time.

Please contact your child’s building principal.

Now that we know the plan (if we are allowed to reopen), is there a survey transportation will send out so that they know if our students may NOT need transportation? They did reach out about a month ago but we had no idea of the reopening plans so I didn’t feel as though we could make a decision either way.

Yes, you should receive it the week of Aug. 3.

Technology

Will special needs students be getting Chromebooks?

Yes, all students will be receiving Chromebooks. We hope to have these available at the start of the year, however, the order is delayed. We will have more information

Will kids be able to use their own computers if they are learning virtually? My child does not like Chromebooks.

Students should use their school-issued Chromebooks to complete school work. The district can only provide technical support on school-issued devices. We cannot troubleshoot personal devices.

Childcare

How will working families be accommodated if children aren’t in school?

We are trying to get our students to 100% in-person learning as quickly as possible. Before and after school child care will be available through the Moreau Community Center.

What are we supposed to do with our children on days they are not attending school in a household with two full-time working parents?

We are trying to get our students to 100% in-person learning as quickly as possible. Before and after school child care will be available through the Moreau Community Center.

Do you think Kids Korner will be an option for after-school care?
