What is the return on taxpayers’ investment in South Glens Falls CSD?

The school budget is the biggest investment the community makes with its tax dollars. The proposed 2014-15 school year budget is $54.1 million. The following student and staff achievements are just a sample of the return on this community investment:

  • Two hundred and sixty-two teachers educate 3,195 students in grades K-12 every day. They are supported by 212 full and part-time support staff members and 17 administrators and department heads.
  • For the Class of 2013, South Glens Falls’ graduation rate was 84.3%; compared to the statewide graduation rate of 74%.
  • Eighty-three percent of South Glens Falls graduates from the Class of 2013 went on to a two- or four-year college.
  • South Glens Falls High School will offer 8 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, 14 college-level courses, 6 honors courses as well as Project Lead the Way, a preengineering program for students in grades 9-12 for the 2014-15 school year.
  • Four hundred and twelve students in grades K-12 receive support through special education and related services.
  • The art of six students was among 110 pieces selected out of more than 340 entries to be featured in the 28th edition of the WSWHE BOCES Talent Unlimited Literary Arts Journal.
  • In early April, 18 works of art by South Glens Falls High School students were accepted into a regional juried art show at the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls. More than 890 entries were submitted collectively from area schools, with only 101 pieces selected.
  • Fifty-four students participated in the high school spring musical “Once Upon A Mattress” and 55 middle school students participated in the middle school production of “Sleeping Beauty and the Beast.”
  • The high school chorus has 150 students, while there are 75 students enrolled in the high school orchestra and 40 students in the high school band.
  • The middle school chorus has 201 students, while there are 207 who participate in the middle school orchestra and band.
Athletics & Extracurricular
  • Approximately 450 students at South Glens Falls High School participate in at least one interscholastic sport.
  • Approximately 296 students in grades 7 and 8 participate in a school sport.
  • For the 2013-14 fall and winter seasons, 14 South Glens Falls athletics teams qualified as a NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team, for having grade point averages over 90 percent.
  • One team of students from Ballard Elementary School qualified for the state competition of Odyssey of the Mind.
  • This year’s South High Marathon Dance raised $583,015.44 to support individuals in need in our local region.
  • Six fifth-grade students were winners in the 12th annual Women’s History Essay Contest.
