As we work through the beginning of the school year and see positive COVID-19 cases occur in New York schools, we are writing to let you know how we will communicate information about COVID-19 cases that may come up in our district.

Under our COVID-19 communications procedures, the district will send a message in the event of a confirmed case. These messages will be sent to that specific school’s parents/guardians and employees via email. The district will also send a message to the parents/guardians and employees via email in the remainder of the district, informing them of a confirmed case in a school building.

Please note, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

We are committed to keeping you informed while also respecting the federal and state laws that prohibit the release of confidential medical information. It is the role of the Saratoga County Public Health Services to contact individuals who were potentially exposed and should be tested.

If the confirmed case changes school operations (an unplanned remote learning day or a longer closure), families and students who are impacted by a change in daily procedure will be contacted as well. This could include a classroom or a full building.

Please make sure that the contact information that you have provided is still current by contacting the main office of your child’s school building if you need to make a change.

Follow these links for information about the SGFCSD’s specific contact tracing and testing protocols. If you need to report a positive case within your family to the school district or if your student has been tested, contact Superintendent of Schools Kristine Orr at 518-793-9617 or District Nurse Supervisor Bristie Tracy at 518-792-9987 (follow the prompts for the nurse’s office). If you need to contact during nonschool hours, please call 518-824-2219.

For further information, please contact the Saratoga County Public Health Services at 518-584-7460.

To our school community, thank you for continuing to perform the daily health screenings, and please continue to do so to help keep our community health and safe!
