Thanks for participating in Everybody Reads!

June 5, 2017

Everybody Reads logoThe South Glens Falls Central School District would like to thank our families, school staff and community partners for the incredible support that they provided during the recent elementary/community Everybody Reads initiative.

More than 1,400 students in kindergarten through grade 5 read the book and more than 30 businesses participated in our event! Humphrey was spotted all around our district, from Hannaford’s to Rock Hill Bakehouse to various restaurants!

Our district received many photos of families reading Humphrey together or searching for him around town, and Humphrey was able to correspond to many families as well through his very own South Glens Falls email address!

Our vision for the project was two-fold. We wanted to inspire children to read and have fun through this large-scale community event, and we want our community to be a part of a shared experience through reading.

“As educators, we know the critical importance of reading in the early years,” said Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction Kristine Orr. “We were thrilled to see so many people reading together and searching for Humphrey throughout the town. We believe we inspired kids to see that reading can be fun!”

As part of the end of the event, students in each of the district’s elementary schools read Humphrey’s Tips for the for the Care and Feeding of Hamsters.

We’d like to especially thank our sponsors for their assistance in making this an event to remember. Sponsors include: Ballard Home School Association, Harrison Home School Association, Moreau Home School Association, Tanglewood Home School Association, Northshire Bookstore, the South Glens Falls Education Foundation and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 236.
