Parent University: Marijuana, what’s the big deal?

October 17, 2014

Parent University LogoThe Community Coalition for Family Wellness, in collaboration with the South Glens Falls School District, is sponsoring an educational forum for parents and caregivers about the issues surrounding marijuana use. The event will be held Oct. 29, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the South High LGI.

While there has been much publicity and media attention around the topic, we are first and foremost concerned about the problems displayed by youth who are using this drug. This forum is featuring a panel of speakers from law enforcement and substance abuse treatment agencies, as well as high school youth, who will share their point of view and provide clarification about the consequences of marijuana use.

We strongly encourage parents and caregivers to attend this event. According to our most recent survey results, approximately a quarter of high school juniors and seniors are using marijuana on a regular basis and more data about youth drug use in our community will be shared at this event. Speakers include Speakers include representatives of Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office, St. Peter’s Addiction Recovery Center, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department and a South High student panel.

The Community Coalition for Family Wellness is committed to providing families with the resources and education that promote health, safety, and wellness. To find out more about the Coalition, contact Jenn Wood at ccfw-coordinator@preventioncouncil.org or visit its website at www.ccfw.weebly.com.
