Three students do push ups on yoga mats while a four holds a 22 A Day sign

Let’s get ready to work out!

The 22-A-Day Pushup Challenge will return to South High for a third year this February.

The challenge sees South High students and staff do 22 pushups each day to help raise awareness of the mental health struggles of those who defend our country and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to do so. The significance of this number is that, on average, 22 active soldiers or veterans take their lives every day, primarily due to the stress and trauma that comes from their military service. This honors their willingness to bear the burden of service to protect the rights and freedoms we enjoy daily.

Started by South High Alum Dylan Stevens and his friends in 2020, the challenge has grown over the past three years. Last year, 49 students, faculty, staff, and administrators signed up for the challenge. In all, 22 completed it, with a team total of over 24,000 collective pushups!
