Musician educational visit starts Jan. 24

January 21, 2022

Starting next week, Ballard Elementary School will be getting a unique visitor. Singer-songwriter Jack Powell – also known as RiverJackZ – will work with each class to create songs themed to the curriculum.

Powell, who specializes in educational music, is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter. He is also a member of the Zucchini Brothers – a kid-focused band that performs school concerts and hosts a syndicated radio show.

Ballard Principal Michael Huchro said Powell had visited the school before for performances. However, this visit will allow him to work with students.

Each class has been assigned a specific theme that will become the focus of a song. At the end of Powell’s visit, the school will have 17 original songs created by our students.

Huchro said the hope is that once the songs are created they can be used in future lessons.

Powell’s visit is scheduled to begin on Jan. 24 and last for three weeks. Powell will be on-site three or four days each week. Huchro said the musician will split his time between a different grade level each week.
