July 27: A Message from Principal Ray Ruby

July 27, 2020

Dear Oliver W. Winch Families,

I’m writing to you today about one of the more significant changes we will be putting into place this coming school year. We are constantly adapting to guidelines set forth by the Governor and the New York State Education Department while doing our best to provide our students the safest and most effective education possible.

Some of the more obvious requirements for schools center on limiting person to person contact, practicing social distancing, and paying close attention to the social emotional needs of our students. One way to address these requirements is to implement a master schedule that reduces the amount of time students spend transitioning in the hallway and increases the amount of time they spend with their teachers. Therefore, we have opted to switch to a 4×4 Block Schedule to better meet these requirements regardless of the instructional model we need to implement. In the video below I describe the changes and provide some examples of what a student’s schedule may look like. The district is also holding several Virtual Town Halls to share more information regarding other aspects of our Reopening Plan. Follow this link for dates and times.

This message will likely be one of many sent to you over the summer as we finalize our plans to ensure a safe and successful return to school. Up to date information regarding our Reopening Plan can be found here.

As always, if you have any questions you can write to me at rubyr@sgfcsd.org.

Thank you and be well,

Ray Ruby, OWWMS Principal
