Jessica Spellburg to be appointed South Glens Falls CSD Director of Special Education

Jessica SpellburgThe South Glens Falls Central School District is excited to announce that Jessica Spellburg will begin a new role as the Director of Special Education. She will assume the position Jan. 1, 2020. Spellburg is expected to be appointed by the SGF Board of Education at its Oct. 21, 2019, meeting.

Spellburg has been the CSE/CPSE Chairperson in South Glens Falls since January 2015. Previously, she was a special education teacher and dean of students in the Glens Falls City School District. Spellburg will fill the director role, which will be open following current director Kathleen Kieffer’s planned retirement in December 2019.

“I am excited and honored to be given the opportunity to continue to contribute to the South Glens Falls Central School District in my new role of Director of Special Education,” Spellburg said. “I look forward to supporting students, their learning differences, strengths and future successes. Our district is part of an amazing community of dedicated staff and parents who are truly willing and eager to collaborate in the best interests of all students—I am very proud to be a part of this extraordinary team.”

“Mrs. Spellburg’s commitment to our students and families during her time in SGF has made a positive impact on many lives,” said Superintendent of Schools Kristine Orr. “I look forward to her leadership of the special education department and continued commitment to helping all students learn.”

Spellburg earned a BA in Psychology from Russell Sage College, a Master of Science in Reading and Special Education from Sage Graduate School and a Master of Science in School Building and District Leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh.

In addition, she holds a New York State Certification in School District Leadership, School Building Leadership, Special Education K-12 and Reading. She is also a National Board Certified Exceptional Needs Specialist K-12 and a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Train the Trainer.

The district is expected to begin a search for the CPSE/CSE Chairperson position in late October.
