August 16, 2018

Jason BalknapThe South Glens Falls Central School District is excited to welcome Jason Belknap as a new assistant principal at South Glens Falls High School. Belknap will begin his role in the district on Aug. 20, 2018.

Belknap was most recently an art teacher and instructional teacher leader at Ballston Spa High School. He has worked at Ballston Spa Middle School and Ballston Spa High School since 2011, and completed his administrative internship there last year as well.

“I am excited to join a district that focuses on providing new and exciting opportunities for students to succeed in the classroom as well as in their great community,” Belknap said. “I believe in a strong partnership with students, faculty, staff and the community to support student achievement and development. I am looking forward to the next few weeks before school begins so I can start to meet and form new relationships throughout South Glens Falls.”

Belknap will fill the newly created position in the high school. As the soon-to-be second assistant principal in the building, his role will include working with staff and students year round and leading all K-12 summer initiatives including Extended School Year, summer school and credit recovery programming. The K-12 summer school principal position, which pays an annual $3,000 stipend, will be eliminated for summer 2019.

As an administrator in the building, Belknap will contribute to promoting instructional priorities, school safety and culture and he will provide support to the counseling office. Overall administrative duties in the building will be realigned for the upcoming school year.

“We are eagerly looking forward to adding Mr. Belknap to our administrative team at the high school, where he will also join Mr. Kyle Lis, who returns after four years at the middle school,” said SGFHS Principal Pete Mody. “Mr. Belknap’s work as a K-12 Instructional Teacher Leader, his service in the United States Armed Forces, his regional work with Restorative Justice and a demonstrated history of connecting with students will make it easier as we continue to work to improve our school and its offerings.”

Belknap received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in illustration, and his Master of Arts in Teaching in Art Education from Sage College of Albany. He completed his Certificate of Advanced Study in Building Leadership at SUNY Plattsburgh. He is also a graduate of United States Air Force Basic Training and the United States Air Force Airman Leadership School. In addition to teaching in Ballston Spa, Belknap has served as the director of the summer art + design program and an adjunct professor at Sage College of Albany.
