Jan. 13: COVID-19 Information/Testing Results

January 13, 2021

Dear SGF Community,

Thank you to those of you who participated in the voluntary COVID-19 testing today, Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, throughout the district.

Today we tested approximately 20% of students and staff at Ballard Elementary School, Harrison Ave. Elementary School and our buildings & grounds/district administration/transportation departments. The following is a breakdown of the results.

  • Ballard Elementary School: 77 tests completed, 0 positives
  • Harrison Ave. Elementary School: 36 tests completed, 0 positives
  • Buildings & Grounds/District Administration/Transportation departments: 11 tests completed, 1 positive

Because the member of our community who tested positive does not work with students, no contact tracing is required to take place in any school building. The district worked with Saratoga County Public Health Services to conduct contact tracing and all who are required to quarantine have been notified.

Our district is not currently in a state-designated microcluster zone that requires COVID-19 testing in schools, but being aware of the positivity rate in our district provides us with the data we need to keep our community safe and our schools open.

I appreciate those of you who participated in this round of testing. Our goal is to keep our schools open for in-person instruction as long as it is safe to do so.

Additional Information

The district also learned today that 4 individuals associated with the district tested positive for COVID-19.

  • A member of the Ballard Elementary School community
  • A member of the South Glens Falls HS community
  • Two members of the Oliver W. Winch Middle School community

Given the timing of these cases, only one middle school case requires contact tracing. The district is working in collaboration with the Saratoga County Public Health Services. Because of the nature of this case, we expect the health department to complete its tracing tomorrow. The district is in the process of contacting the families of those students who may need to quarantine.

Please note that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.

If you need to contact the district to share information about a COVID-19 case, you can call at 518-824-2219, email at SGFCovid@sgfcsd.org.
