Four elementary classrooms win “classroom libraries”!

April 3, 2018
Students celebrate winning a classroom library.

Kate Smith’s fifth-grade classroom at Harrison Ave. Elementary School with their “check.”

When you’re a teacher in South Glens Falls and a group rushes into your room in Publisher’s Clearinghouse style, it’s not necessarily a cool million you’ve won. This past February, four educators were winners of classroom library makeovers!

One classroom in each of the district’s four elementary schools was selected by a regional committee of literacy specialists. Teachers applied for the library make overs, which will include new books, seating areas for reading and an opportunity for the students in the classroom to have a hand in designing the space and choosing books.

The winning classrooms were:

Ballard Elementary School: Amy Couchman, Fourth grade
Harrison Ave. Elementary School: Kate Smith, Fifth grade
Moreau Elementary School: Chris Bresnahan, Second grade
Tanglewood Elementary School: Jon Dillon, First grade

The program was organized by SGF Literacy Coach Shelley Fenton through grants and donations.
