Eighth-grade Moving Up Ceremony Information & Livestream

June 19, 2020

(Please note, information for joining the livestream is at the bottom of this page.)

Students and families in their vehicles following a specific route through the Harry J. Betar Recreational Park at Moreau Rec that will be lined with cheering school and district staff. Prior to exiting the park, each vehicle will have an opportunity to stop and have students quickly get out of their vehicle to obtain their diploma, class tee-shirt, gifts and any awards. We will also take a quick picture of the OWWMS graduate holding his/her diploma and later share all of our photos.

  • Please follow all directions from school and Moreau Rec. staff while in the park.
  • Once in the park, please remain in line and do not stray from the designated route.
  • Parents and guests must remain in their vehicle at all times.
  • Although this isn’t our traditional ceremony, students should still meet the standards of attire set for such a special occasion. Dress should be appropriate for a semi-formal affair.
  • Each student is allowed one car, and for safety reasons, preferably only with guests and family from the student’s immediate household.
  • Arrival time windows will be divided by last name to reduce congestion and prevent traffic back-up on public roads. Please do not arrive early as this can also back up traffic onto public roads.
    • Between 5:00 and 5:15 arrival: Students with last names from A to K
    • Between 5:30 and 5:45 arrival: Students with last names from L to Z
  • Please enter the park at the Route 32 entrance onto Lennox Boulevard and follow the designated route through the park.
  • When you reach the softball fields parking lot, a staff member will ask for the student’s name to prepare his/her materials.
  • Please drive very slowly and do not exceed the park speed limit of 10 miles per hour.
  • At the designated spot, we will ask you to stop your vehicle for your child to get out, have their picture taken with their diploma (plaque), and receive their gifts and any awards. Again, for safety reasons, only the student should exit the vehicle. Your student does not have to wear a mask as we will remain at least 6 feet away.
  • This is a celebration and decorated vehicles are welcome!
  • This ceremony will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on what is sure to be a fantastic evening!

Thank you,

Ray Ruby, OWWMS Principal
