Dr. Cornel West visits South Glens Falls HS

Cornel-WestOn Tuesday, May 19, renowned author, activist and professor Dr. Cornel West visited some of Mr. Hayes’ U.S. History classes at South Glens Falls Senior High School.

Dr. West touched on a number of themes that kept students engaged and while providing new insights about: race, love, life, catastrophe, courage, Emmett Till, Socrates, Bruce Springsteen, Ferguson, Baltimore, Selma, Shakespeare, Aretha Franklin, Al Sharpton, Duke Ellington, Thomas Jefferson, everlasting joy, temporary pleasure, Anton Chekov, MLK, Malcolm X, The Great Gatsby, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, leadership, peer pressure, his mother, Frank Sinatra, BB King, democracy, Ella Baker, the South High Marathon Dance, jazz, blues, Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Virginia Woolf, soccer, Macbeth, and Eminem, just to name a few!

Cornel West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual, according to his website. He is the Class of 1943 University Professor at Princeton University who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy at Princeton. He has taught at several different universities and is the author of 19 books and the editor of 13.
