The district submitted those preliminary plans to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) on Friday, July 31, 2020. The plans are very similar to the draft documents we emailed to all families and presented to the community this week.

As of July 31, students in grades K-12 will attend school beginning this fall in a hybrid model. This means that some days will be in-person in school and other days will be remote learning. More details will be forthcoming in the next few weeks as we establish groups for learning and student schedules.

It is important that you understand that this could change for a number of reasons, including, a decision from NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo or the district’s ability to enroll enough students into a 100% Virtual School (which would make it possible to bring all other students back to the buildings every day). The plans that were submitted to the state on July 31 can be found here.

In the coming weeks the district will:

  • Continue to monitor the guidance and direction coming from NYSED and the New York State Department of Health and adjust its plans;
  • Continue to communicate with families through email and the district website regularly; and
  • Continue to respond to questions about the plans to help families during this time of change.

Virtual School

We will be ready for students to return to school for in-person learning. However, we understand that each family situation is different and we will be offering a completely virtual option for families that choose not to send their children to school this fall. Families that select this option will be part of an online school with a designated classroom and teacher. If chosen, families will commit to be part of this program for the first trimester (elementary) or first semester (secondary). The deadline to register for this program was Aug. 7, 2020.
