District part of two upcoming events to stop illegal drug use

April 27, 2018

The South Glens Falls CSD is supporting two upcoming events that will aim to reduce prescription drug misuse and overall drug abuse in our community.

First, the SGF Community Coalition for Family Wellness and the Facing Addiction A Community Effort (FACE) Committee are sponsoring a DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Locally, prescription medications can be dropped off at Moreau EMS, 1583 Route 9, Moreau.

In addition to the Take Back Day, the school district and the coalition will hold an Opioid Community Forum as the final Parent University program of the school year on Wednesday, May 3, at 6 p.m. at South Glens Falls High School.

This event will include an expert panel and multimedia presentations centered on what parents can do to keep their kids safe. The event will be hosted by NYS Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake).

“Our district is not immune to the troubling misuse of drugs that we are seeing across the country,” said Interim Superintendent Jon G. Hunter, Ed.D. “As a district and as a community we must do our best to keep our children safe. To that end, we hope to see parents and community members at these upcoming events as we work together to ensure safe and healthy young people.”
