District launches new website

The site has a completely new design – for all district and school pages. District leaders are excited to provide an updated and modernized place for parents, students and community members to locate information about the district – anytime, anywhere.

“We believe a school district’s website should be a primary source of communication between the district and the community,” said Superintendent of Schools Michael Patton. “We were thoughtful in our approach for the new design—trying to combine a new, clean look with function and ease of use.”

The new site, and particularly the homepage, will rely on photos and posts for to share district news and feature stories. A major change of the new site is the organization. Each school has a tab across the top which leads to an informational page with some news items. Ten major categories are featured to the left of the main photo on the homepage, which lead users to these topic areas for additional information.

Another significant change is that all school pages will have a consistent design and organization. This is expected to help parents know where to look to find particular information and to keep visitors connected to the overall district site as they navigate between school and district pages.

Among its many features, the new design is “responsive,” meaning that the layout adapts to the visitor’s device (from smaller mobile phones to larger desktop computer monitors). It provides an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum need for resizing, panning, and scrolling.

The new site has been under development for the past 12 months, and was produced in partnership with the Capital Region BOCES Communications Service.
