Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics Update

April 4, 2016

The district’s Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics, Edward Cook, is leaving the South Glens Falls Central School District, effective today, Monday, April 4, 2016.  Below is a letter that was shared with our community.

Dear South Glens Falls Community,

I am writing to inform you that our director of physical education, health and athletics, Edward Cook, is leaving the South Glens Falls Central School District, effective today, Monday, April 4, 2016.

Board of education policy does not allow school officials to comment publicly on personnel matters therefore we cannot discuss details regarding this action. We can say that there was no illegal activity, and no students were directly impacted.

I felt it was important that I share this information with you immediately. It is expected that this news may cause disappointment or confusion for some parents and students. Please understand that it is our job to ensure the integrity and quality of all our school programs and sometimes that involves making difficult decisions.

To finish the school year, we have hired a veteran athletic director, Tom Heinzelman, who has more than 35 years of experience in Section II athletics. He retired from the position of the athletics director and head football coach in Hudson Falls in 2008, where he worked for 25 years. Mr. Heinzelman will begin working in the district on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. His office will be in the high school and he will take on all of the responsibilities of the director of physical education, health and athletics.

I know that change can be challenging, but I am confident that with your help, our district can welcome Mr. Heinzelman and we can continue to strive for educational and athletic excellence.

If you have any questions, please call the district office at 793-9617, Ext. 1.

Sincerely,

Michael Patton, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
