COVID-19 Testing Information

January 8, 2021

Dear SGF Community,

I am writing to let you know that beginning next week, on Tuesday, Jan. 12, the South Glens Falls Central School District will begin COVID-19 testing.

The district is planning to test approximately 20% of in-person students and employees on a random basis following the increasing caseload in our community. We are not required to begin testing by the state, Governor Cuomo said on Monday that if the rate of positivity in schools is below the level of positivity in the community, then schools should remain open for in-person instruction. Having data to inform our decisions moving forward will be important.

For families who completed the testing consent form earlier this school year, your child may be randomly selected to receive a free diagnostic test for the COVID-19 virus (the BinaxNOW COVID-19 rapid test). Tests will be administered by nurses from Adirondack Health & Wellness. The testing process will involve inserting a small swab, similar to a Q-Tip, into the front of the nose. This is the simple, quick, shallow nasal swab test.

If you opted your child into testing but would like to remove your child from the list, please contact your building principal.

Individuals who test positive will receive a phone call after the results are available. All other individuals will receive a general notification from the district that outlines the number of tests conducted and the number of positive results.
