Larry Smith

Larry Smith graduated from South Glens Falls in 1963 where he excelled in basketball and tennis. Larry Graduated from SUC at Oswego in 1967 where he played varsity soccer, basketball and tennis. He was Oswego State’s “Athlete of the year” in 1967 and then returned to South Glens Falls to begin his teaching and coaching career.

Larry coached boys varsity tennis from 1968-1992 winning 12 league titles and 9 Sectional titles including 3 class “A” championships. He finished with an overall record of 325-93.

In 1970 he re-established boys varsity soccer at South High. He won 19 league championships and 4 Sectional crowns, reaching the State semi finals in 1989.

Smith coached from 1970 to 2001 compiling a record of 387-175-33. In 1980, he was featured in Sports Illustrated “faces in the crowd”.
