Alex Vishneowski

A native of Hudson Falls, Alex Vishneowski was a teacher, coach, referee, advisor, mentor, athletic director and principal in the South Glens Falls School District for more than 35 years.

Known to all as “Mr. V”, Alex was a tireless advocate for students and student-athletes at South High. He mentored many young coaches who sought out his wise counsel, and volunteered endless hours at practices and games.

After retiring in 1995, Alex continued his work in athletics, working as a timer at South High games and at the State Public High School Basketball Tournament at the Glens Falls Civic Center. He loved golf and playing pinochle, and loved spending time in the garden, where he had some memorable battles with squirrels.

Alex passed away on Oct. 26, 2006, leaving his beloved wife, Sally, five children — John, Bobby, Tommy, Sue and Carol — and 12 grandchildren.
