Regular Meeting – January 13, 2020

The South Glens Falls Central School District Board of Education, Saratoga County, New York, met in regular session on Monday, January 13, 2020, at the High School, 42 Merritt Road, South Glens Falls, NY 12803

Call to Order:
President Elder called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m., led the Pledge of Allegiance and advised everyone that the meeting was being audio-recorded.

Members Present:
Christine Dawson, William Elder, John Farrell, Kimberly Henkel, Lisa Hogan, Thomas Kurtz, Kevin Ostrander, Jeff Riggi and Parker Taft (Student Representative)

Absent: Roger Fedele, Lauren Kraner, Student Representative

District Officials Present:
District Officials present were Kristine Orr, Superintendent of Schools, Timothy Dawkins, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Audrey Varney, Business Manager and District Clerk.

PRESENTATIONS:

Introduction of Temporary School Resource Officer
Ms. Orr introduced Officer Monge who will serve as the district School Resource Officer for the next several weeks during the absence of Officer Carey.

“State of the District and Long Range Planning”
Ms. Orr and Mrs. Varney presented the current snapshot of academic targets, district themes and the 2020 – 2025 Five Year Long Range Plan.

Safety and Security Committee (Mrs. Henkel, Mr. Farrell, Mr. Fedele, Dr. Dawson)
Mr. Farrell summarized the meeting held prior to Board of Education meeting including door hardening, safety planning and district safety communications.

Mr. Elder noted that South Glens Falls CSD will be hosting the January meeting of the Saratoga County School Boards Association on Monday, January 27, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. at the High School. Interested Board members should register for the event.

Superintendent of Schools Informational Items:
Ms. Orr updated members on Capital Project progress for future planning.

Assistant Superintendent Informational Items
Mr. Dawkins discussed the recent Elementary Mental Health Support presentation he and Mrs. Covey gave. He also updated members on the Mental Health Task Force, building presentations, proactive v. reactive supports, self-care, open circle groups, trauma team plans and Mental Health Matters Day scheduled for March 11, 2020.

Adjournment to Executive Session
Motion by Mr. Riggi second by Mr. Ostrander and unanimously carried 8/0 adjourned the meeting to Executive Session at 8:11 p.m.

Mr. Kurtz left the meeting at 8:11 p.m.
