Regular Meeting – December 16, 2019

The South Glens Falls Central School District Board of Education, Saratoga County, New York, met in regular session on Monday, December 16, 2019, at Moreau Elementary School, 76 Bluebird Road, South Glens Falls, NY 12803

Call to Order:
President Elder called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., led the Pledge of Allegiance and advised everyone that the meeting was being audio-recorded.

Members Present:
Christine Dawson, William Elder, John Farrell, Kimberly Henkel, Lisa Hogan, Kevin Ostrander, Jeff Riggi, Lauren Kraner (Student Representative) and Parker Taft (Student Representative)

Absent: Roger Fedele and Thomas Kurtz

District Officials present were Kristine Orr, Superintendent of Schools, Timothy Dawkins, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Audrey Varney, Business Manager and District Clerk.

PRESENTATION:

Moreau Elementary School Building Report – Mr. McGough
“Moreau Elementary: An Update on the Three Themes”
Mr. McGough discussed school safety, highlighted mental health resources including Moreau’s newly completed Multi-Sensory Room, and discussed what Future Ready Learning looks like at Moreau Elementary.

Ms. Orr and Dr. Dawson provided highlights of the Policy Committee held prior to the Board meeting.

Board President Informational Items:
Mr. Elder summarized the Grand Opening ceremony for the Kindness Closet held on December 7, 2019 at Tanglewood Elementary School.

Superintendent of Schools Informational Items:
Ms. Orr discussed her attendance at the recent Superintendent Lobbying Day in Albany on Tuesday, December 10 and the WSWHE BOCES Advocacy Priorities for the 2020 Legislative Session. She also spoke regarding the importance of the local school board associations and that South Glens Falls will be hosting the Saratoga County School Boards Association on January 27, 2020, at the High School. Ms. Orr recognized Director of Special Education Mrs. Kieffer on her retirement and thanked her for her years of service.

Assistant Superintendent Informational Items
Mr. Dawkins updated members on High School scheduling and the Academic Course Guide. He also congratulated the high school staff who presented at NYSCATE on future ready learning.

Board of Education Discussion: Dr. Dawson congratulated Literacy Coach Mrs. Fenton for her presentation at the recent NCTC conference.
