Board of education seeking advisory committee members for superintendent search

February 16, 2018

The board of education is currently in the process of soliciting candidates for the position of superintendent of schools, and semi-finalists will be invited to South Glens Falls in late March for extensive interviews with three Advisory Committees, each composed of multiple stakeholders. Each Advisory Committee will be composed of two administrators, two members of the teachers’ association (from multiple grade levels and subjects), two members of CSEA, two parents representing various grade levels (elementary, middle school and high school), two community members and two students. There will be a total of 36 individuals; 12 per Advisory Committee.

Parents or community members interested in being a member of the Advisory Committee should contact Barbara Pease by Friday, March 9, 2018, via email at bpease@sgfcsd.org or by phone at (518) 793-9617, ext. 1. When calling, please let Ms. Pease know the grade level(s) of your child(ren) in the district. Parents will be selected to serve on the committees from the elementary, middle and high school levels. In order to properly represent the entire community, the board is attempting to recruit community members who do not currently have a child in the school district. Community members with children are encouraged to participate as a parent representative. In the event that there are more than six parents and six community members who volunteer to serve on the Advisory Committees, participants will be chosen by lottery.

Please review both the charge to the Advisory Committee and the meeting schedule to be sure that you will be able to fulfill the obligation.

The charge to each Advisory Committee is to:

  • appoint co-chairs;
  • interview all semi-finalists; and
  • assess the strengths and weaknesses of each of the candidates and report back to the board verbally and in writing.

The three Advisory Committees are scheduled to meet on the following dates:

  • Monday, March 26, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the High School Library, with Tony Muller, Assistant Superintendent of WSWHE BOCES.
  • Tuesday, March 27, 2018, beginning at 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m., to interview semi-finalists.
  • The evening of Wednesday, March 28, 2018, with the Board of Education to report the committees’ findings to the board.

Please be advised that attendance at these sessions is mandatory to ensure a consistent and fair interview for the selected candidates.
