Board of Education approves three-year agreement with South Glens Falls Administrators’ Association, extends superintendent’s contract

June 17, 2015

The South Glens Falls Central School District Board of Education ratified a three-year contract with the South Glens Falls Administrators’ Association (SGFAA) and extended Superintendent of Schools Michael Patton’s contract through 2020 at its regular board meeting on Monday, June 15.

The 11 members of the SGFAA, who are all principals, assistant principals or directors in the district, voted on June 12 to ratify the agreement, which covers the period of July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2018.

The contract calls for a salary increase of $2,700 during the 2015-16 school year, and 2.75 percent during both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.

“The Board of Education has great respect for our administrative leaders and appreciate the compromise and collaboration that was needed to reach this agreement,” said Board of Education President William Elder.

Also in the new contract, all members of the SGFAA will move to a less costly Alternative PPO health insurance plan offered by the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES consortium. The contribution rate for administrators will increase to 18 percent for all three years and is expected to save the district approximately $15,000 per year.

“The Board of Education and I value the leadership that our administrative team provides for our students and staff on a daily basis and appreciate the hard work that has gone into reaching this agreement,” said Superintendent of Schools Michael Patton. “Both the school district and administrators are very aware of the challenging fiscal environment and the change in health insurance plans will result in long-term savings for our taxpayers.”

“We are pleased with the contract settlement and appreciative of the collaborative efforts of the Board of Education and the district. The SGFAA is comprised of dedicated administrators and we feel this settlement is beneficial for them, the South Glens Falls CSD, and respectful of our wonderful and supportive school community,” said Harrison Avenue Elementary School Principal and President of the SGFAA Joseph Palmer.

Patton’s contract was extended through 2020 and he will receive a 2.5 percent salary increase for the 2015-2016 school year. He has served as superintendent since July 2011.
