Athletics Update

February 5, 2021

SGF Bulldogs LogoThe South Glens Falls CSD Board of Education approved high-risk sports at its meeting on Monday, Feb. 8, and students began practicing on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The season will run until March 13 and will include competition with other area schools.

SGF high-risk winter sports that will be offered include boys and girls basketball (varsity and junior varsity), spirit cheerleading (varsity) and ice hockey (varsity). Each of these three sports requires six practices before competitions can begin.

Unfortunately, wrestling will not be offered this season given concerns over wearing masks and safety protocols during practices and competitions. In addition, there are very few schools considering participation.

Schools that will be participating in high-risk sports in Saratoga County are required to follow specific guidelines that are outlined by the county. Read more information about Saratoga County’s requirements.

SGFCSD will be taking reasonable measures to prevent the spread of infection of COVID-19, including contact tracing/testing and following applicable state and local guidance, as well as guidance from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. However, the possibility of transmission cannot be eliminated.

Please note, spectators will not be permitted during winter competitions. All SGF home events will be streamed live via the NFHS Network.

We are excited to be able to offer this for our students and we hope to be able to expand our extracurricular activities in the near future.
