April 9: A Message from Principal Ray Ruby

April 9, 2020

I am sharing some information with you today regarding developments in this ever evolving situation we find ourselves in.

The video highlights the following:

  • Emphasis on student wellness during this time of relative isolation
  • Focus of instructional practices
  • Grading procedures and Quarter 3 Report Cards
  • Suggested time investment from students (how many hours a week they should be engaged in schoolwork)
  • Impact of the recent news of the cancellation of the NYS June 2020 Regents Exams
  • Additional resources to help you through these unprecedented times

There is quite a bit of information included in the video, so I have included in this email a link to the presentation as well as other resources. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. My recommendation for contact is as follows:

  • For specific course/class related questions, contact the teacher directly.
  • Questions that cover multiple classes or concerns about wellness/support, contact a student’s counselor.
  • Questions that are about general school functioning, programming, or other school wide impact questions, please contact me at rubyr@sgfcsd.org.

School Work for the Week of April 13th – Previously Calendered as Spring Break

  • School for the week of April 13th has a requirement of a “continuity of learning” as per Governor Cuomo and the NYS Department of Education. As we interpret the directive, we are asking that teachers provide students who are caught up access to some resources (a video, a reading, etc.) that connects their course with student wellness and health.
  • For students who feel like they have fallen behind, we are asking teachers to work with them next week to help them prioritize work and get their feet back under them. Any student who feels overwhelmed by what they have to do should reach out to their teachers and let them know. Each teacher will prioritize work for students upon request if they need the help.
