Each year, the 24-hour dance marathon is held to benefit individuals and organizations in the greater South Glens Falls community. These recipients are selected by students.

SHMD will be held March 1 and 2 at South Glens Falls High School. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. Friday evening. SHMD is a student-run function that raises money for individuals, families and organizations in need of financial assistance. More than 80 percent of the school’s population participates in this two-day event and students will be trying to break last year’s record of $831,191!

Community members can donate to the dance in a variety of ways: directly to a dancer, through one of the events at the district’s middle or elementary schools or through one of the community fundraising events. In addition to the money collected by the students, members of the community and business owners can donate items to be auctioned during the dance itself. If you are interested in donating an item, please contact us at

This event has grown from a small dance in the old high school gym to a celebration that brings the entire community together like nothing else. In its 41-year history, SHMD has raised over 7.3 MILLION DOLLARS for more than 490 beneficiaries, for community members and organizations both in South Glens Falls and the surrounding communities.
