40 Years of SHMD to be chronicled in book

January 20, 2016

The organizers of the South High Marathon Dance are working on a book to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the South High Marathon Dance, which will be next year in 2017.

The group is looking for the public to contribute photos, especially from the early years, before cell phone cameras and Facebook and Instagram and Twitter. Anyone with a photo they’d like to share should go to to submit it, along with relevant information like who’s in the photo, the year and any other description.

The group is looking for written memories, as well. They’re looking for answers for the following questions:
What’s your favorite SHMD memory? What’s your most unforgettable moment? Who are your unsung
hero or heroes? Why has it been so successful for 40 years? What’s the secret to SHMD?

The event advisors will use as many photos and written submissions as possible in the book, which they hope will be available at the 40th annual SHMD in March 2017.

Submissions will be accepted through June 1, 2016.

If you have specific ideas for the book, or want to help, please contact Gordon Woodworth at

The advisors/coordinators are Dan Albert, Tom Myott and Jody Sheldon.
