Summer 2018 construction information… where can I find…?

June 11, 2018

SGFHS science wing constructionAs part of the December 2015 Capital Project that was approved by voters in the district, four school buildings will be closed during the Summer of 2018. Harrison Avenue, Tanglewood and Ballard elementary schools, along with the high school, will be closed to the public this summer. Buildings will close Friday, June 22, and are anticipated to reopen on Aug. 27, 2018.

In addition, passersby may already have noticed construction continues on the district’s new transportation facility on Harrison Avenue.

Construction is underway now at the high school to create a new bus loop and a new eight-classroom science wing for the building. As part of our district-wide school safety initiative, the front main entrance lobby of the high school will undergo a complete redesign this summer. In the fall, visitors will enter through a new and secure, locked vestibule.

This summer at Tanglewood, construction will begin on a two-room classroom addition, which will house the district’s 15:1:1 special education program. Occupational and physical therapy spaces will also be redesigned and updated.

At Ballard, construction has started on a six-classroom addition. A new parking lot will be built to add to the parking capacity. Occupational and physical therapy spaces will also be redesigned and updated as well.

At Harrison Avenue Elementary School, the gymnasium will be renovated, which includes the removal of a dividing wall. Ceiling tile replacement will take place throughout the whole building. There will also be upgrades to the mechanical, energy and fire alarm systems.

Asbestos abatement will take place at the high school, Ballard, Harrison and Tanglewood elementary schools. Notifications for this work will be posted throughout the building at least 10 days before work begins there (week of June 11). All abatement will be completed prior to the start of the school year in September 2018.

Summer Programs

Student programming, which includes Moreau Community Center Summer Recreation programs and the district’s summer programs (ESY, HS Summer Credit Recovery and Summer Success) will once again be held at Moreau Elementary School, unless otherwise noted to parents.

High School Credit Recovery and other summer school registration, including August Regents Exams, will take place at OWWMS Library during summer business hours, Monday, June 25, to Wednesday, June 27, 2018. It is anticipated that August Regents, scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16, and Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, will take place at the middle school as well. Information will be posted on the district website closer to these days.
