December 6, 2017

The South Glens Falls Central School District board of education has announced its intent to appoint Dr. Jon G. Hunter to lead the school district as its interim superintendent. The appointment is scheduled to take place at the next meeting of the board on December 18, 2017.

Dr. Hunter’s service will begin on January 1, 2018, and he will serve in the interim superintendent role until the new superintendent commences service. The district will pay Dr. Hunter $500.00 per day. Dr. Hunter is a retiree, therefore the district is not obligated to offer health insurance or required to contribute to the state retirement system on Dr. Hunter’s behalf.

Prior to his retirement in January 2014, Dr. Hunter served as superintendent of schools for the Fairport Central School District in Rochester, New York. Dr. Hunter also served as the superintendent of the Geneseo Central School District for six years and as the high school principal in the Bethlehem Central School District for 13 years. Since his retirement, Dr. Hunter has continued to be active in education administration, including serving as interim superintendent at the Lake George Central School District in 2016, and as interim deputy superintendent in the Rochester City School District in 2017.

Board President William Elder said, “The South Glens Falls Board of Education was quite impressed with all the candidates that we interviewed. However, we felt that Dr. Hunter would be the best choice for providing our school district with the interim leadership that we were seeking. We are extremely pleased to welcome him, and look forward to working with Dr. Hunter.”

Dr. Hunter said, “I am looking forward to working with the South Glens Falls board of education, students, faculty, staff and parents. South Glens Falls is a strong district with outstanding educators and programs in literature, technology and an ongoing building renovation project. I am excited about making a professional and personal commitment to the South Glens Falls schools and community.”

Dr. Hunter has a home in Ballston Lake, New York, where he resides with his wife Sabina.
