OWWMS girls reinvigorate their souls at the annual winter retreat

February 6, 2018

Each year, girls from Oliver W. Winch Middle School and a guest of their choice are given the opportunity to participate in a Girls Winter Retreat.

This night of activities, specifically designed to give girls a place to invigorate the winter soul, to calm and balance themselves, and let their creative sides shine. This evening gives girls and adults the opportunity to make a healthy life choice at a time when the winter weather may not be so friendly.

Mother Nature may not have delivered in the form of snow and clear skies, but the group enjoyed a candlelit luminary walk under a full moon, followed by yoga and belly dancing, which resulted in many smiles and giggles.

Volunteer yoga instructor Margaret Foote and OWWMS teacher and belly dancer Tina Hayes and her daughter all donated their time for the evening. The retreat ended with each participant creating their own version of a zen calming/meditation jar, a mass of floating glitter that can help mesmerize into calmness.

The event was organized by physical education teacher Michelle Leary, and supported by ELA teacher Olivia Sutton and Home and Careers teacher Ashley Tarello.
